Things being what they are these days, I don’t get out anything like as much as I used to, so opportunities for photos are somewhat rarer than before,
One thing that I can do with relative ease is walk five minutes to the local heath at grab a few shots, which often coincides with late sun or dusk. Given the locality, though, I’ve photographed it from every angle there is, and I don’t find it that photogenic a place anyway.
So the challenge is to see it in a new light, taking advantage of both the changeable weather and the colour capabilities of a Fujifilm camera.
It’s the Velvia simulation which tends to come into play in the closing hours of the day. I rarely use it in the daytime—these days I mostly prefer less-saturated colours—but for these sort of images it shines. Max out the contrast (always the shadows, sometimes the highlights) pick a wild white balance, and there’s fun to be had,
And, to that end, here’s a random selection of stuff taken locally at around sunset with a variety Velvia-based settings. All straight out of camera JPEGs, no post-processing.
